Out Here All Night: Prologue

Title: Out Here All Night
Author: sweetnovicane
Bands:Damone, The Distillers, Flyleaf, Garbage
Summary: I laced my fingers through hers and bite my lip. How did we get here? It seems like forever ago when we first teamed up. Forever ago that this whole vampire hunter thing was just a way to keep myself alive for another night, not to try and save this city from impending doom.
Pairing: It's General, but if you want to have a fem slashy mindset, go for it.
Rating: PG-13 for language
A/N: Another one of my AUs. I really wanted to try something with some of my favorite female musicians as the main characters. Even though I purposely set it in the same universe as 'A Little Less Sixteen Candles...' and Lacey is in both stories I'm writing, 'Out Here All Night' and 'Sophmore Slump...' are not connected.

“Noelle...”

I’m literally frozen as Brody calls out to me. She sprawled across the pavement, breathing shallow. Red is oozing from several places on her body. Mainly her stomach and her neck. Her eyes are moving rapidly back and forth, like she’s searching for me. I can see the little leech Lacey five feet away, frantically searching the bloodstained dress left on the ground for any sign of her mistress. Stupid one should guess her mistress isn’t dead. Like I care at this point...

I fall on my knee’s and grab my teacher’s hand. “I’m right here, Brody.”

Brody looks over at me, letting out a smile and a wheeze at the same time. “What a way to go, huh? Not a blaze of glory, but a bloody mess.”

“You’re not going to die,” I say, gripping onto her pale hand, “Not tonight, anyway.”

She lets out a laugh, even though it sounds more like a wheeze. “God, you’re still hopeless Noelle.”

I see a small shadow hanging over us. I look up to see Lacey gripping onto that dress and crying like a lost child. “What did you do with her? Where’s my mistress Shirley?”

Brody’s eyes loll in her head, trying to simulate an eye roll. “Grow some legs kid and break off the leash. You’re better off without that bitch.”

Lacey bares her fangs and growls. “You stupid whore!”

She tries to go for Brody’s throat, but my crossbow is in her face before she can reach it. “Don’t you even dare touch her!”

Lacey backs up, dropping the dress and fear growing in her eyes. For a vampire who is at least a hundred, she still hasn’t figured out the ‘terror in the night’ thing. “But what happened to her?”

“Shirley isn’t dead, sweetie,” said Brody weakly, “She’s just gone. Gone without you.”

Lacey opened her mouth, but nothing came out. She looked towards her feet and muttered, “What am I suppose to do without her?”

I looked up at her, blinking back the tears that I can feel welling up. “Be independent. She’s your fucking sire, not your mother. Cut the fucking leash,” I hissed. “Just stay away from Beckett’s side. I hear they eat little ones like you.”

She started to shake and cry again. Making a swift turn, her dress fluttered at her feet and she ran off. I picked up my crossbow and aimed for her head, but Brody reached up, trying to pull my hand down. “Let her go Noelle. She’s not important...”

I put my crossbow down and push some of Brody’s hair away from her forehead. “Bet you didn’t think you’d go out like this.”

“Noelle, I thought I’d go out much sooner,” she wheezed as she looked up at the sky, “I’m not afraid of this.” She then let out a little laugh and smiled. “I think I see Vasquez already.”

I smile along with her as she said that. Vasquez has been dead for six months.

“How did it come to this though? Dying in the middle of a dark street? It’s not how I imagined dying.”

I laced my fingers through hers and bite my lip. How did we get here? It seems like forever ago when we first teamed up. Forever ago that this whole vampire hunter thing was just a way to keep myself alive for another night, not to try and save this city from impending doom.

Before I realized that the vampires in this city make the ones in the movies look like Care Bears...
